Brushing by age: from first tooth to teens

Under 3 years: a smear of fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice, twice a day.

3 to 6 years: a pea-sized amount. Parents should still do or finish the brushing.

6 years and up: children can start brushing on their own, but check their work at night until about age 8.

Always brush for two minutes, covering the outside, inside and chewing surfaces. Try our Kids Fun Zone brushing timer to make it a game!
